Serving now!

Hello there!

This has been long overdue (think of 2 decades, IKR?) and it's only now that I had the urge to blog seriously. I already tried blogging with another provider but that did not work so well since my motivation was not as strong back then; that failed miserably.

I have a wattpad account too but that is also less than acceptable but I decided to keep that account active and improve on it during the course of my blogging. I will be more active in maintaining this page.

Some people asked me why the name "Peach Mango Pie" as a blog name. My friends find it cute and catchy but they always ask why.

Here is my answer:

Firstly, I am Filipino. Here in the Philippines, we have a fast food chain called Jollibee that arguably rivals if not surpasses the very popular western chain McDonald's.

Jollibee introduced its own version of Peach Mango Pie a long way back (I'm too lazy to research exactly when, sorry) and became an instant hit to the Filipinos. At present, the warm sweet pastry still makes its way to the hearts of the younger generation.

Secondly, my mother was not an exception (even I am a huge fan). She loved that dessert so much that she misses it so much when she decided to go overseas and work. Yes, she was an Overseas Filipino Worker or OFW as we locally call them.

Whenever she would come home to the Philippines for vacation, the first thing she would request me is to have her driven to a Jollibee branch found along the South Luzon Expressway on our way to Tanauan City, Batangas, her hometown, to buy a couple of Peach Mango Pies and savor them during our travel.

And lastly, my mother passed away just recently.

She was diagnosed with cervical cancer a little over two years back. She went through radiation therapy in the hospital she was working for as a nurse in London, United Kingdom. After the therapy, she was declared cancer-free at that time. We were elated and very thankful that she was cured. She celebrated her 60th birthday with us here in the Philippines. Many of our friends and family joined us in celebrating. We were so happy.

But just early this year, we were shocked by the news of a recurrence of her cancer. And worse it was a metastasis of her cervical cancer found in her lungs; stage 4. She celebrated her 61st birthday so far away from us since she was already undergoing chemotherapy at that time. We were unable to be with her for so many reasons, and none of those excused us from it.

It was a rollercoaster of emotions for us. Having to deal with hopeful news just to receive bad news about her condition just a day or two after. Until she passed on October this year.

We were utterly devastated.

I personally wanted to honor her in any way I can. Then I was reminded that I was writing poems before. So I decided to go back to writing them and seriously start a blog.

I could not think of a name for my blog so I asked a friend to help me. I related to him that I wanted this blog to be something to remind me of her and all the time I spent loving her. The advise he gave me: "Think of something that reminds you of her the very instant that you see it, hear its name or touch it".

And so Peach Mango Pie, my blog, came into existence.

As stated in the blog description, this will be mainly a collection of poetry and prose written by me. I may sometimes post something different or expand the scope of the blog in the future but I would like to dedicate most the space to the two art forms mentioned above.

Without further adieu...

Welcome to Peach Mango Pie!

I pray you enjoy the stay. :)

PS. I will be bringing my old poems here so those are the first works you will be encountering in the coming days :)
